Air purification for Schools and Nurseries

The number of children (including adults) who suffer from asthma, allergies or are susceptible to viruses is constantly increasing. Their underdeveloped immune systems cannot withstand the level of pollution they are exposed to on a daily basis. Because of the large groups, the polluted indoor air and the often poor ventilation, schools and nurseries are the perfect place for the spread of viruses and bacteria. With our air cleaning solutions you protect children and employees from an unhealthy environment and reduce the risk of allergies and asthma.

Poor air quality in schools and nurseries leads to absenteeism and poorer school performance.

The indoor environment in most schools is bad. Classrooms are often stuffy, hot and dusty. This picture is constantly emerging from research. The indoor climate at school or daycare is heavily polluted by both internal and external sources. Just think of the bacteria that children bring from home and the streets every day. Children who are sick infect other children, teachers and parents and this creates a snowball effect. Babies have a low resistance and are therefore not at all resistant to all viruses and bacteria that float around in the air. Not to mention the effects of pollution from traffic or nearby industry. Many schools are located near busy roads.

Improving air quality at school

Various studies (including the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment) have shown that poor air quality at school can adversely affect the learning performance of children. Unfortunately, the indoor environment is not healthy at more than 80% of Dutch schools. It is therefore important to improve the air quality there.

Good air quality extra important because of corona

Now that all schools have started again, there is a lot of uncertainty among school staff, students and parents in view of the corona pandemic and the poor air quality in the school buildings. This concerns, among other things, fear of spreading the virus in the (practice) rooms, teachers' rooms and meeting rooms with all the possible consequences.

Consequences of poor ventilation

Since the ventilation systems at many schools are not in order and it is very expensive and time-consuming to adjust or expand them, all kinds of emergency measures are currently being taken. At many MBO and HBO courses and universities, physical lessons are canceled and/or partly moved to evenings and weekends. This increases the burden on teachers. Online lessons are often not sufficient to be able to structurally convey the material in a good way. Students run the risk of incurring study delay.

A good air purifier helps

From our experience in combating bacteria, particulate matter and virus particles in schools, we know that installing good (mobile) air purifiers is a good and practical additional solution to improve air quality.

Causes of Poor Air Quality in Schools:

  • Nasty, musty smells from the outdoors but also from the students or poor ventilation

  • Students are often sick and therefore bring bacteria and viruses to school where they hang in the air

  • Draft and heat loss can also be a reason to keep the window closed

  • Schools, located along major traffic routes, suffer from (ultra) particulate matter due to excess emissions of exhaust gases. You want to let polluted air outside

  • Noise (eg from busy roads) is a reason to keep the window closed during lessons

Musty air at school

There is often a musty smell in the classrooms at school. These are caused by poor ventilation. If the air 'stands still', it will become stale. In addition, the students themselves also bring all kinds of odors from sweat (after the gym) but also from clothing that has become wet from the rain. In the Netherlands, most classrooms are overcrowded, which means that many potential 'nasty odours' can pollute the indoor air.

It goes without saying that sufficient fresh air and especially healthy air are important to improve the air quality at school. This problem is quite easy to solve through air purification.
